Miller. Baptised at Elston, Nottinghamshire, son of Thomas Dixon, miller, and Sarah Sumner. Of Hartford End Mill, Felsted, Essex. Friend of Erasmus Darwin, CD’s grandfather. Married firstly in London Elizabeth Boydon in 1757; secondly at Broomfield, Essex, Mary Knight, widow of Thomas Cavell of Belstead Hall Farm, Broomfield, in 1779.
