Richard Lovell Edgeworth
1744–1817
Irish landowner, educational writer and engineer. Set up a workshop at Hare Hatch, Berkshire, where he made various inventions. Introduced to the Lunar Society of Birmingham by Erasmus Darwin, he wrote the first account of the early days of the society. Awarded medals for diverse inventions by the Society of Arts, 1767, 1769. Wrote on the education of children with his daughter, the novelist Maria Edgeworth (ODNB).
