Surgeon. MB, University College, London, 1851; FRCS 1853. Specialised in the treatment of urethral stricture, enlarged prostate, and bladder stones. Designed new surgical instruments for lithotrity (an operation to remove bladder stones). Professor of clinical surgery, University College, London, 1866. Knighted, 1867; created baronet, 1899.
