Johann Jakob Scheuchzer
1672–1733
Swiss scholar and physician. Born and educated in Zurich. Studied medicine and mathematics at the University of Altdorf, 1692–96; MD, Utrecht, 1694. Junior town physician at Zurich, 1696; professor of mathematics, 1710; professor of physics and senior town physician, 1733. Author of numerous scientific and travel works about Switzerland.
