Prussian-born physician. Emigrated to Philadelphia in 1849. Graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1857. Practiced medicine in New York. Specialised in diseases of the throat. Professor of laryngology and throat diseases, University of the City of New York, 1861–78. Published essays on music, literature, and science.
