Edward William Bok

1863–1930

Dutch-born American editor, philanthropist, and peace advocate. Emigrated to the US with his family in 1870. Worked as an office boy for Western Union from the age of 13, and as a reporter for the Brooklyn Eagle. Started the Bok Syndicate Press in 1886. From 1889 to 1919, editor of the Ladies’ Home Journal, which he used as a platform for progressive reform. Famous for his autograph collection, which he started at a young age.
