William Rathbone
1819–1902
Merchant and philanthropist. Partner in his father’s firm, Rathbone Brothers & Co., from 1841. Involved in philanthropic activities in Liverpool; in the establishment of district nursing; and in education. Liberal MP for Liverpool, 1868–80; Caernarvonshire, 1881–5; North Caernarvonshire, 1885–95.
