William Chester Minor

1834–1920

American surgeon and murderer. MD, Yale University, 1863. Assistant and demonstrator in anatomy at Yale, 1862–4. Translated and reviewed German works on natural history. Sent to England to recuperate after a breakdown, 1871. Murdered George Merrett in Lambeth in 1872, and was confined to Broadmoor Asylum. Supplied thousands of quotations for the OED. Deported to the United States, 1910.
