Ellis James Gilman

1806–77

Merchant. East India Merchant in Singapore and Australia until 1846, when he returned to London and founded the house of Ashton & Co. (later Gilman Bros. & Co.), London agents for his brother’s firm, Messrs Gilman & Co., in China. Patron of the living of Chudleigh, Devon.
