Carl August Dohrn
1806–92
German entomologist and businessman. Travelled to Algeria and Brazil to study language, literature, and zoology. Returned to Stettin, 1837. Headed the editorial staff of Entomologische Zeitung, 1843–87. Published sixteen volumes of Linnaea entomologica, 1846–66. Became director of a sugar-refining plant in Stettin in 1852, when his father died. Father of Anton Dohrn.
