Robert Bruce Cotton, 1st baronet
1571–1631
Politician, historian, and antiquary. MP for Huntingdon, 1604; Old Sarum, 1624; Thetford, 1625; Castle Rising, 1628–9. Wrote political and historical treatises, and collected manuscripts and coins. His library was transferred to the nation in 1702 and deposited in the British Museum at its creation in 1753. Knighted, 1603; created baronet, 1611.
