Physician, anatomist, and medical biographer. MB, London, 1848; MD 1850. MRCP 1851; FRCP 1856. Physician at Guy’s Hospital, 1867–85; an editor of Guy’s Hospital Reports, 1854–65. His lectures on morbid anatomy were published as Pathological anatomy, 1859. Harveian orator of the Royal College of Physicians, 1879; vice-president, 1890; president, 1896–9. FRS 1870. Created baronet, 1897.
