Private secretary. Clerk at the London Diocesan Church Building Society and Metropolis Churches’ Fund, and assistant to its secretary John Sinclair, archdeacon of Middlesex and vicar of Kensington. A lifelong friend of Alfred Russel Wallace. Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, 1869–78.
