George Thorne Ricketts
1823–1919
Soldier and diplomat. Served with the British army in India and Ceylon (Sri Lanka), 1849–58. Retired from the army in 1858. Cancellier in the consulate at Monastir (now Bitola, North Macedonia), then acting consul, 1859–60. Acting consul-general, Belgrade, 1863. Consul at Sarawak, Borneo, 1864; Manila, Philippine Islands, 1866; Tiflis (Tbilisi), Georgia, 1876; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 1878; Tunis, Tunisia, 1888. Retired from the foreign service in 1889.
