Francis Polkinghorne Pascoe

1813–93

Entomologist. Surgeon in the Royal Navy until 1843; retired after inheriting property. Devoted himself to science, forming a large entomological collection, later given to the Natural History Museum, South Kensington. Although a believer in evolution, he persistently opposed the theory of natural selection.
