Samuel Jones Loyd, 1st Baron Overstone, Lord Overstone
1796–1883
Banker and pre-eminent authority on banking and finance; partner in the London and Westminster Bank. Whig MP for Hythe, 1819–26. A leading promoter of the Great Exhibition of 1851. Created 1st Baron Overstone in 1849.
