John Leslie
1766–1832
Mathematician and natural philosopher. Studied at Edinburgh University, 1785–8. Private tutor at Etruria, Staffordshire, to Thomas Wedgwood (1771–1805, son of Josiah Wedgwood I), a fellow student at Edinburgh, 1790–2; Wedgwood settled an annuity on him in 1797. Professor of mathematics, Edinburgh University, 1805; professor of natural philosophy, 1819.
