Harper & Brothers

New York publishing company first established under the name J. & J. Harper in 1818 by James Harper (1795–1869) and his brother John (1797–1875). Two more brothers later joined the firm, Joseph Wesley Harper (1801–70) in 1823, and Fletcher Harper (1806–77) in 1825. The name changed to Harper & Brothers in 1833.
