John Frederic Daniell
1790–1845
Experimental philosopher. Worked for a sugar refining establishment, 1808–21. Designed meteorological instruments. Helped found the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge in 1827. First professor of chemistry, King’s College, London, from 1831. FRS 1814.
